The Madras High Court passed a significant judgment on the fundamental right to privacy specifically the right of an acquitted individual to get his name redacted from all Court orders. The Court’s decision came while deciding the plea of an individual, accused of cheating and rape, who was subsequently acquitted of all charges.

The Hon’ble Supreme Court has opined that WhatsApp messages have no evidentiary value as the possibility of deleting or creating information on social media does not allow the Court to attach usefulness to such messages. It was also opined that authors of such messages could not be tied to them, especially in business partnerships governed by agreements.

A relief has been sought through an application, supported by more than 1,152 students, seeking intervention and direction in the writ petition filed earlier before the Hon’ble Supreme Court for cancellation of CBSE/ ICSE Board examinations. The instant joint petition seeks direction to the CBSE for cancellation of CBSE Class 12 private, compartment exam and demands parity with regular students.

As part of the latest measure taken to protect the interest of workers, specifically nursing mothers throughout the pandemic, the Central Government has issued an advisory to all the State governments/Union Territories to encourage work from home for nursing mothers. The Centre has initiated States and UTs to take such steps to create awareness about Section 5(5) of the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 which permits work from home for nursing mothers.

The Madras High Court bans medical attempts to cure sexual orientation. The Court also suggested comprehensive measures to sensitise the society and various branches of the State including police and judiciary to remove prejudices against the LGBTQIA+ community.
